🎉Nat’l Inst. Mater. Sci./Univ. Tsukuba/Nat’l Chung Hsing Univ. Joint Workshop
On October 24, we welcomed esteemed colleagues from Japan, including Prof. Kazuhito Tsukagoshi, Prof. Naoki Fukata, Dr. Yasuyuki Nakamura from NIMS, and Prof. Yohei Yamamoto, Prof. Akira Uedono, and Prof. Yukio Nagasaki from the University of Tsukuba. They joined Assistant Prof. Wei-Hsiang Lin, Prof. Shu-Ping Lin, and Associate Prof. Yi-Chun Chen from NCHU in an engaging workshop that fostered valuable exchanges and learning between Japanese and Taiwanese scholars, further laying a foundation for technological advancement. 🇹🇼🤝🇯🇵
The National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) is Japan's premier national research organization dedicated to materials science🔬, located in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture. NIMS hosts numerous research units across Tsukuba, forming an essential part of Tsukuba Science City. 🌆
NIMS focuses on cutting-edge research in materials science, emphasizing the synthesis, characterization, and application of bulk and nanoscale materials, including metals, semiconductors, superconductors, ceramics, and organic materials. Its applications span electronics, optics, coatings, fuel cells, catalysts, and biotechnology, with advanced expertise in characterization techniques involving electron microscopy, high-energy particle beams, and high magnetic fields. ⚡️🧐🔋
The visiting scholars from NIMS and their research topics are as follows:
🧑🏫Prof. Kazuhito Tsukagoshi – Electromechanical Switching of a C60 Nanochain
🧑🏫Prof. Naoki Fukata – Functionalized Semiconductor Nanostructures for Future Electronic- and Energy-related Devices
🧑🏫Dr. Yasuyuki Nakamura – Adaptive Materials Based on Cyclic Disulfide Functionalized Polymers
The University of Tsukuba is also located within 🌟Scientific Town of Tsukuba🌟, inheriting resources from the former Tokyo University of Education📚 and establishing deep roots in Tsukuba Science City as Japan’s second-largest single-campus university after Hiroshima University🏫. With a broad range of research fields, the visiting professors from Tsukuba University represent the School of Science and Engineering within the applied sciences disciplines. The scholars from the University of Tsukuba and their research topics are as follows:
🧑🏫Prof. Yohei Yamamoto – Supramolecular Design of Organic/Polymeric Micro Photoemitters for Advanced Optical and Laser Applications
🧑🏫Prof. Akira Uedono – Characterization of Vacancy-type Defects in Semiconductor Materials Using Positron Annihilation Spectroscopy
🧑🏫Prof. Yukio Nagasaki – Antioxidant Nanoparticles Mitigating Intestinal Oxidative Stress for Enhanced Overall Health
The workshop drew a diverse group of approximately 120 students, including international attendees, adding a rich multicultural dimension to the event. This diversity not only enhanced the discussions but also supports the valuable knowledge and skills exchange, enabling these talented exchange students to bring enriched expertise back to their home countries—contributing to national industry development, talent cultivation, and strengthening international competitiveness.
